Selah is Nature Theatre : performances and workshops that bring us to the heart of this Earth.
With a rich and diverse background in the performance arts, Selah loves what she does. Originally trained as a classical ballerina, she has since devoted her time to contemporary dance, the circus arts, yoga, butoh and improvisation theatre.
Selah is grateful to have travelled with her
performances, giving shows across South Africa, and internationally in Holland, Germany, Italy,
Portugal, Canada, Namibia, Mauritius, Seychelles and the Azores. She has also participated
extensively in multi-disciplinary theatre and circus workshops around Europe and South Africa.
Highlight performances include TedX CT; The National Arts Festival, Baxter Dance Festival; Klein Karoo Nationale Kunstefees; Boom Festival; Afrikaburn and the European Juggling Convention. Recent works include Earth Stories, a short film that uses the potent imagery of dance set in majestic nature locations to tell the story of a journey from fragmentation to wholeness. The Story of Fire is Selah's first full length fire theatre show which premiered at the National Arts Festival in 2022 and had sold-out shows in 2023.
Teaching and facilitation, as for many artists, has always been a part of Selah's job. She holds a calm and comfortable space for learning, connection and play, sharing her embodiment, dance, yoga, circus and contact improvisation practices with children, teens and adults alike. Selah has also developed a completely unique workshop, Play with Fire, where she guides participants on a self-empowering journey by playing with the fire palm candles.
Selah is passionate about embodiment; curious about the alchemical union of the physical and the unseen; inspired by nature; receptive to what is, and active in creating joyful life. She carries within her art the intention of radiance, wholeness and healing, to bring together diversity through equality in a way that supports the co-evolution of this Earth and Humanity.
Tara and Selah have collaborated with the Conscious Connection Celebration weekend Retreat which included sound-journey healing, theatre games, voice activation and a full-length elemental dance journey in which participants also had the opportunity to play with fire. When Tara and Selah come together their collaborative energy creates a field of fun that nurtures authentic creative expression, what a gift!
